Visiting Choreographer Performs New Contemporary Dance Piece

Irish-based American choreographer, Alicia Christofi-Walshe performs her solo dance work, Shift(h)er, developed during her residency at The Derida Dance Center.

Shift(h)er is a bittersweet love story that explores how idealistic memories and nostalgic feelings can resonate in a person, physically and emotionally, long after they have fallen in love. The starting point for this dance work is Alicia's interest in the double meaning of words in colloquial Hiberno-English, especially the word 'shift.’  In Ireland the word shift has two definitions, to move or replace something and to kiss passionately.  Shift(h)er is a honest and touching piece, full of nuanced movements and exaggerated climaxes.  Alicia's work is guaranteed to both surprise you and pull at your heartstrings.

Alicia is in residence at the Derida Dance Center for two weeks developing Shift(h)er.  She will perform this new work at Derida Dance Center March 15th at 19:30h.  Following on this performance at Derida Dance Center, Alicia will return to Ireland to present Shift(h)er in Dublin and then to the USA for performances in New York City.

Alicia is an Irish-based dance artist originally from Boston, USA.  She graduated from The Boston Conservatory with a BFA in Dance and her work has been performed in New York City, Boston, New Hampshire and throughout Ireland.

Shift(h)er is generously supported by The Derida Dance Center, Culture Ireland, Dance Ireland, The Courthouse Arts Centre, ArtLinks, Tipperary Dance Platform, Tipperary Dance Residency’s TRY! residencies programme for emerging artists.
