Monomorph - screendance project

Vladi Steph

The first Bulgarian residency in Derida Dance Center for 2017 was held in the period 16.03- 05.04 – this was the screen dance project "Monomorph", a continuation of the long-term collaboration of the dancers Vladimir Gruev and Stephanie Handjiiska and the composer Georgi Atanasov.

Monomorph (math. an integer that can be expressed in only one way in an equation) is driven by the idea of merging space, motion and sound. The aim of the project is to create a short screendance miniature, exploring symmetry and harmony in the movement and sound environment. The team searches for the end point of the upward spiral development of the musical and choreographic phrase and the point of oscillation before the system de-balances. The subject of interest during the work is the challenge of working both indoors and outdoors in order to compare the impact the environment gives on the movement and its context.

Dancers Stephanie H. and Vladimir G. collaborate since 2015 in the short projects "SERIOUSITY" presented at the BODY_GRAPHICS 2016 festival and the screendance miniature "Red Garden".
